GAD-7
A 7-question anxiety screening questionnaire.
What is it?
The GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) measures the severity of anxiety symptoms over the past two weeks. The score ranges from 0 to 21.
Originally designed for generalised anxiety disorder, it is also sensitive to other anxiety disorders (panic, social anxiety).
Why it is used
It is a quick, validated and freely available tool, useful for identifying clinically significant anxiety and tracking how it changes over time.
Its limits
The GAD-7 does not distinguish the different types of anxiety disorders from one another, and anxiety often accompanies other conditions. A professional assessment remains necessary to clarify the picture.
